Acupuncturists and Medicare Frequently Asked Questions
Background
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 and older, as well as those with disabilities and certain significant medical conditions. It is administered federally, and recognition of provider groups requires an act of Congress to amend the Social Security Act (SSA).
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) began covering acupuncture services for chronic lower back pain in January 2020. CMS Decision Memo For Acupuncture For Chronic Lower Back Pain. Prior to this decision, Medicare did not cover any form of acupuncture.
Joining your state association supports local, state, and national efforts to present the profession as subject matter experts of acupuncture while improving standards of education, practice, doctorate programs, continuing education, credentialing, and privileging.

If this is your first time renewing since the platform launch, please note the following:
Automatic renewals will no longer process: All memberships previously set to auto-renew will instead expire on their next scheduled renewal date.
To maintain your membership, you must log in using your existing username and reset your password here. Once logged in, visit the Become a Member page to re-register your membership and complete the checkout process. This is a one-time setup in the new system.
Payment Tips
To ensure uninterrupted service:
Verify that your payment method is current and has sufficient funds.
To enable auto-renewal for future payments, log in and visit your My Account profile. Under the My Subscriptions tab, select your active subscription and toggle on the auto-renew option.

As your renewal date approaches, you’ll receive helpful email reminders with instructions to guide you through the process. Please keep an eye on your inbox and follow the provided steps to ensure your membership remains active.
